Postage Increase January 2012

Get Ready for the Postage Increase!

As of January 22, 2012, it will cost 45 cents to mail a letter in the United States. The penny increase on first-class mail is the first price change in two and a half years. The self-supporting government agency is looking to increase revenue and stabilize its finances in an age where more people are relying on the Internet to communicate and pay their bills.

In 1926, more than 15 trillion pieces of first-class mail were sent. By 2010, this figure grew to more than 78 trillion.
